ABOUT US

Rodi (Rod-ee) (She/her)

Co-Founder, Writer, Avid Reader

rodi’s love of fantasy can be traced back to a childhood nourished with folklore and fairytale. As an essayist and writer, her interests toe the line of real and imagined as she examines topics such as grief, familial ties, and love under a fantastical lens. Her favorite genres include, but are not limited to, magical realism, science fiction/fantasy, and deeply personal narratives. When she is not writing, she is reading. When she is not reading, she is playing video games poorly, watching anime, or losing staring contests with her dog, Lox.

February (she/they)

Managing Editor; Writer

Before becoming a writer of multiple disciplines, February grew up with a love of storytelling and the oral tradition. Her favorites stories center BIPOC families, specifically family sagas across both fiction and nonfiction (bonus points if they are matrilineal and/or told in multiple voices). Her passion for editing and writing is what keeps her returning to books with the goal of shepherding more of those stories into the world. When not reading or writing, you can find her at home burrowing into whatever corner she can find and playing Sims with obnoxious adult cartoons in the background.

Miracle (She/her)

Writer

Reading is not only a source of entertainment for Miracle, but a way to educate herself in the rapidly changing climate of the world around her, and to ensure that nobody’s story goes unheard. Just like a bookworm there isn’t a genre that Miracle wouldn’t try to devour, but she will admit the macabre themes found in horror and thriller novels leave her feeling satisfied the most. Those haunting motifs seep into her writing as well, with emphasis on BIPOC characters being front and center. Miracle is a jack of all trades, and when she isn’t reading or writing she can be found crocheting, trying out a new recipe, or watching movies old to new— occasionally all at the same time!

Jamie (she/her)

Co-founder, Program Director

rediscovering her love for reading and creating fictional worlds has been the highlight of Jamie’s adult years. While there isn’t a genre that she isn’t open to delving into, science fiction and fantasy is where she has made herself home—something that one will undoubtedly notice by the stories she feels compelled to tell. When Jamie is not borrowing obscene amounts of books from her local library, she can be found at home plotting her summer and winter gardens, spending hours looking at antique furniture,  or baking artisan bread under the watchful eye of her senior kitty manager, Jynx and brown-eyed pittie, Jupiter.

Lillian (She/her)

Creative Marketing Director, Writer, Crocheter

Avid reader and writer Lillian is our Creative Marketing Director and a writer in the Basement Artists Collective. She loves all things spooky and gothic with a special affinity for vampires. She is interested in long-form storytelling, with the goal of seeing more BIPOC sapphic stories put out in the world. Beyond her love for the written word, she can be found crocheting for friends, family, and one extremely bossy cat named Jolene.

Jules (She/her)

Creative Designer, Hobby Hopper

jules grew up in a close-knit artistic family where everyone had hobbies they loved and encouraged her to find one she cared about. So, while Jules is a voracious reader, her main talent is in designing whether that be in print or tactile. When she’s not hunched over her sewing machine, crochet needle, sketchbook, oven, or finding other ways to express her artistic ideas, she’s knee-deep in a story about eldritch horrors… or a grumpy x sunshine romance. Sometimes it’s both. Her happy place is curled up in front of the fireplace with her little fluffy dog, plotting her next project.

Ashley (she/her)

Writer

Ashley is an avid reader and admirer of all things art. While she is studying different writing styles, her interests lie in creating poetry on grief and its ghosts. She enjoys consuming horror and the supernatural (even if it scares her) with a little romance in between. When she is not reading or writing, she is trying her hand at different hobbies, watching anime, playing video games, or listening to music. Outside of those interests, you can find her fussing over her 2 dogs, the princess Piper, and escape artist Remi.
